BONO MACK URGES SEN. GRAHAM TO HOLD FIRM AGAINST ADMINISTRATION’S AGENDA

Shares Senator’s Distrust of Administration and Democratic Leadership Priorities

Palm Springs, CA  – Last week, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) sent a letter to Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) urging him to resist the Democrats’ legislative agenda relating to climate change, due to a shared distrust in the Obama Administration.  After sending this letter, Congresswoman Bono Mack issued the following statements:

“President Obama has proven himself, with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, incapable of earning the public’s trust.  In the wake of the healthcare debacle, bailouts and stimulus, it is clear that the American people have lost confidence in the Administration because of their blatant disregard for the democratic process.

“I am deeply concerned with where the Majority has taken Congress in the last year, and I strongly urge Senator Graham to resist the Administration’s legislative agenda.”

CRP Statement Concerning Misleading Voter Registration Report from Secretary of State’s Office

Takes focus away from 2010 GOP gains to promote negative 2006 comparison

Posted: Friday, April 23, 2010

SACRAMENTO – California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring today issued the following statement:

“We expect the gains in Republican voter registration reported since January of this year to continue.  After four years of decline reflecting national trends, Republican voter registration in California is now ticking back up.  That trend will continue to grow as our voter registration efforts accelerate while Democrats remain burdened by a deeply unpopular President and Congress.

“In politics we closely track leading and lagging indicators.  The leading indicator in this area is party self-identification, which tells us where we’re going.  Its corresponding lagging indicator is voter registration, which tells us where we’ve been.  As independent voters are now turning strongly to the Republican Party, it takes some time for those voters to have the opportunity to re-register.

“Today’s Gallup data shows that Republicans are surging in the number of Americans who identify with our party.  The Democrat advantage enjoyed in 2006 and 2008 has collapsed from a 13% edge to just 1%.  Meanwhile, the number of people identifying as Republicans has grown from 39% to 45%.  As these voters change their party affiliation to reflect this trend, Republican registration will continue to grow.

New Gallup Data Shows Big Surge in Americans Identifying with the Republican Party

14% Democrat advantage in party self-identification collapses to just 1%

In new data released this morning, Gallup finds that the substantial advantage Democrats have enjoyed in the number of Americans identifying with a major political party has collapsed.

Americans are turning away from the party in control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue: in 2008 53% of Americans identified with the Democratic Party, compared to 46% today.  Meanwhile, Republican strength has surged from a low of 39% in 2008 to 45% today, giving the Democrats just a 1% advantage.

Gallup data

The impact of the Republican surge, which can be attributed to large numbers of independent voters aligning with the GOP, is expected to be magnified on Election Day as Republicans historically vote in higher numbers than Democrats.  The Gallup data relates to registered, as opposed to likely, voters.

Healthcare Proposal is Riddled with New Taxes, New Bureaucracy, and New Debt‏

There’s nothing new or bipartisan about the healthcare proposal introduced this week by the Administration. In fact, the “new proposal” is riddled with new taxes, new bureaucracy, and new debt. Their “bipartisan approach” is nothing more than a political tactic, aimed at distracting the American people, while government and debt continue to grow.

Under this proposal, business owners with 50 or more employees are forced to provide health insurance. If they can’t, the government will levy an employer mandate tax of $2,000 per employee. The bill will also add a 2.9% Medicare payroll tax to non-wage income like dividends, interest and capital gains. Both taxes will stall job creation and grow unemployment rates by forcing small business owners to downsize operations and lay off employees.

The Americans for Tax Reform estimate that the “new bipartisan” proposal is a net tax hike of $748 billion. Click Here to View Their Analysis.

While the government continues to slash the Medicaid Advantage program for well-deserving seniors, billions of dollars in tax credits and cost sharing subsidies will be given away to “qualified families” to pay for most, if not all, of the government mandated insurance. We pay, but we don’t receive.

Congresswoman Bono Mack knows that this $980 billion dollar proposal is not what Americans want. She continues to fight tirelessly in Washington for comprehensive healthcare reform, which enhances the doctor/patient relationship at an affordable price.

Bono Mack Votes Against Increasing Federal Debt

Last week, Democrats in the Senate pushed through partisan legislation to drive the Federal Government $1.9 trillion deeper in debt. Liberal Leadership prevailed with a 60-39 vote, attracting no support from Republican Senators.

The bill now heads to the House of Representatives today for a vote. If passed, this measure would put the federal government on the road to a national debt of $14.3 trillion dollars, which equates to roughly $45,000 per American.

Congresswoman Bono Mack is adamantly opposed to any increases of the federal debt ceiling and will vote today against the measure on the House floor.

“This Administration is completely out of touch with America,” said Bono Mack. “Now is the time to stop out of control government spending, not allow more. Across the county, businesses and households are tightening their belts and looking for ways to cut costs. Washington should do the same. “

Growing Beyond Consent Of The Governed

From Investors.com

By BETSY McCAUGHEY

The $3.8 trillion dollar federal budget that President Obama announced Monday is another bruising blow to American freedom. Government is growing beyond the consent of the governed.

In 2008, government spent 38% of everything produced in the U.S. (gross domestic product) and last year the figure shot above 40%, perhaps as high as 43% though the numbers are still being crunched.

When government spends so much, less is left for people to spend as they choose. Only once before in American history did government spending cross that 40% threshold — to wage World War II. Nothing today justifies a similar confiscation of nearly half of people’s resources.

Amazingly, though the 40% mark is being crossed, politicians continue to propose costly programs that you will have to pay for with the fruits of your labor. No matter who your employer is, you’re actually toiling for the politicians. They’re not public servants. They’re making you a servant. How much more freedom are you willing to give up?

I bet no member of Congress has ever asked you: “Would you rather buy something for your family or re-cover your sofa instead of funding National Public Radio? Would you rather make your own car payments instead of bailing out the auto industry or expanding aid to Africa?

Washington politicians don’t want to hear your answer. The more programs they create, the more followers they gain and the more powerful and celebrated they are.

Your Dollars At Work

Ride Amtrak from New York to Washington, D.C., and you’ll pass by the monumental Frank R. Lautenberg train station, named for the New Jersey senator, still very much alive, who took credit for getting federal dollars to pay for the building. Excuse me, not federal dollars, your dollars.

Almost no one in Washington, D.C., is calling for spending controls. In the nation’s capitol, the cause celebre is deficit reduction. Last month, numerous senators from both parties called for a deficit-reduction commission to close the gap between federal spending and tax revenues.

To avoid burdening the next generation, they said, Americans must “pay as they go.” Nothing should be “off the table,” including tax increases, said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. President Obama joined in, announcing in his State of the Union message that if Congress won’t set up a deficit-reduction commission, he will.

Don’t be bamboozled by these sanctimonious calls for deficit reduction. In plain English, it means raising your taxes to keep pace with what politicians are spending. The real danger to our freedom is the level of spending, not whether it’s paid for with taxes now or borrowing. They’ll come after you and your children later. What’s needed is a cap on overall spending.

During the last 18 months, federal spending as a percentage of what the nation produces (gross domestic product) soared to 28% from 20%. Add in state and local government spending, and the result crossed that critical 40% threshold.

The president said in his State of the Union message that the federal government must tighten its belt, just the way American families are doing. But his budget proposal increases federal spending by $85 billion. That is belt-loosening.

Many Republicans seem as unaware as the president of the growing public outrage over the size of government. Endorsing the call for a bipartisan deficit-reduction commission, Sen. Collins said Americans have to face the harsh reality of “out-of-control debt” and consider tax increases.

Fortunately, patriots across the nation are forcing politicians such as Collins to address another harsh reality — the public does not want to put 40% of everything produced in this nation into the hands of government.

Welcome To Germany

The level of public spending is one indication of the power of government and the loss of individual freedom. Total government spending in the U.S., as a percentage of GDP, is approaching levels found in social welfare states like France and Germany, where life is highly regulated by the state.

Another indicator is the hundreds of thousands of federal employees, with more being hired all the time as private sector workers lose their jobs. This week, Americans need to deliver a clear message in response to the president’s budget that they do not want their country to be Europeanized.

The Era of Big Government is Back. Actually, The Era of Really Big Government is Here.

Largest-ever federal payroll to hit 2.15 million

The era of big government has returned with a vengeance, in the form of the largest federal work force in modern history.

The Obama administration says the government will grow to 2.15 million employees this year, topping 2 million for the first time since President Clinton declared that “the era of big government is over” and joined forces with a Republican-led Congress in the 1990s to pare back the federal work force.

Most of the increases are on the civilian side, which will grow by 153,000 workers, to 1.43 million people, in fiscal 2010.

The expansion could provide more ammunition to those arguing that the government is trying to do too much under President Obama.

“I’m shocked that the ‘tea party’ hasn’t focused on it yet, and the Obama administration only has a thin sliver of time to deal more directly with it, I believe,” said Paul C. Light, who studies the federal bureaucracy as a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and a professor at New York University. “When you talk about big government, you’re talking about a big employer.”

The new figures are contained in the budget that Mr. Obama sent Monday to Congress.

Mr. Obama says the civilian work force will drop by 80,000 next year, mostly because of a reduction in U.S. census workers added in 2010 but then dropped in 2011 after the national population count is finished. That still leaves 1.35 million civilian federal employees on the payroll in 2011.

From 1981 through 2008, the civilian work force remained at about 1.1 million to 1.2 million, with a low of 1.07 million in 1986 and a high of more than 1.2 million in 1993 and in 2008. In 2009, the number jumped to 1.28 million.

Including both the civilian and defense sectors, the federal government will employ 2.15 million people in 2010 and 2.11 million in 2011, excluding Postal Service workers.

The administration says 79 percent of the increases in recent years are from departments related to the war on terrorism: Justice, Defense, Homeland Security, State and Veterans Affairs.
